Calculating how poor I will be

I have had a cranky week, and I want nothing more than to defeat a polygonal person. Even a sense of triumph grounded in play would be something about now. Irrational frowning: initiated.

In that vein: tell me again why I should get an 80 gig and not a 40 gig PS3?

I do not want Metal Gear. But then again, I don't want Spider-man 3 either. I would prefer a Dualshock, but Foley doesn't care. Of cuss more room is better, and backwards compatability is swell---but I do have a PS2, and we don't plan on using the console for multimedia whatnot. We do not need a bunch of USB ports because we will never own Rock Band or its ilk. I know more games are requiring installs, but is that it? Am I missing something? I know I have heard this argument, but I can't remember to what end.

My kneejerk reaction is to get a 360, but:

a) I would like a high-def movie player to max out my TV, and so;*
b) Foley really, really, REALLY wants to play LittleBigPlanet;
c) barring Fable 2, all the games I want to play are multiplatform anyway, and this way I can continue to humor my Final Fantasy affiliation;
d) our friend wants us to get one so badly, he gave us a "down payment" of $200 to make sure it happened.

So, yeah.

When... When Fable 2 comes out, can I borrow the 360?

Dude, the thing you do is TRADE the ps2 in FOR the ps3 80 gig, making it cheaper. You should be able to get at least 20 or 30 bucks off, and have less cables running all over the place. Why have two consoles, when you can have one? Plus, it's very liberating to get rid of all them cords and go BALLS OUT WIRELESS.

Also, (I'm not sure how cool a Gamestop would be with this) we often let people intending to buy the console/game combo of something who were uninterested in the packaged game just pull it out of the box and take the trade quote off the package price. That could kick another, maybe 30-40 bucks off?

Honestly, I've seen 40 gig and 80 gig systems, and the 40 gig is just such a turd. It's lacking all the slick-ass little bells and whistles that make the ps3 so delicious.

Plus, I also hadn't intended to make mine a media center, but it WANTS to be one SO HARD. Give it a chance!

(Plus you need all available USB ports for your PlayStation Eye so that we can have webcam intimacy together.)

Yeah, Steve is right - the 80 gig PS3 can be a sexy, sexy bitch, even without a giant pile of must-have exclusive software available for the system. The backwards compatibility/meatier harddrive/extra bells and whistles will be worth it, especially if you can use the PS2 to take a bite out of that $100 price difference between the 80gb and 40gb units.

And dear Christ, GTA IV is coming. IN A WEEK. HOLY BALLS, ANNE.

But yeah, I noticed that it's nearly impossible to find 80gb PS3s right now, but I suggest keeping tabs on the local Gamestops (there's that one downtown at Pioneer Place, another one a few blocks away near the PSU campus and probably one at the Lloyd Center) if you want to take the trade-in route should you find a new system at one of those stores.

Looks like we're all stuck buying stand-alone Dualshock controllers for now, though (no rumble controller pack-ins until later this summer, it seems).

Seriously, this is like bumping into the kids touring Willy Wonka's factory and suggesting they should eat whole wheat vegan crackers rather than mess with any of this crazy, delicious candy.

And then the kids begin to EAT YOUR FACE.

You have to buy component cables separately.
